In July, the surfer, who lost her left arm in a shark attack at the age of 13, opened up about her upcoming nuptials to Dirks.
She told InTouch that she thought it would be 'hard' to meet someone, because she was 'different' after the incident that saw her lose her arm, as well as 60 percent of the blood in her body.

'To say I was completely comfortable looking at myself in the mirror and seeing one arm would be a lie,' she confessed. 'I just had to trust in God and know that he had someone special for me.'
That special someone came in the form of Christian youth minister Dirks, whom she met on a blind date that was set up by friends.
For their first date, 'we jumped off a cliff,' recounted the Kauai, Hawaii native.
'You could say it was love at first cliff jump,' she added.

Bethany has previously written on her blog that her fiance is 'genuine, kind, fun, adventurous, easy going, friendly to all, passionate for Christ and just a great guy over all!'
Eleven months after their first date, Dirks proposed, getting down on one knee while they were at her favorite beach.
'I cried tears of joy,' she told InTouch magazine.
Bethany's story became an inspiration to many after she wrote about it in the book Soul Surfer: A True Story of Faith, Family, and Fighting to Get Back on the Board.
Originally from Hillsboro, Kansas, Dirks now works for the Christian non-profit Young Life in Hawaii.
He posted to Hamilton's blog about the engagement and called their relationship 'an amazing and blessed adventure.'

Her autobiography was made into a movie with Dennis Quaid and Carrie Underwood in 2011. Anna Sophia Robb, currently on 'The Carrie Diaries, portrayed Bethany.
She currently is on tour with the Association of Surfing Professionals, and in 2010 she was the twentieth ranked woman among surfers.
The bride-to-be is also a motivational speaker, and she tours the country telling her inspiring story.
